Compression of graphical files

Lossy compession
Lossy compression is used to save space. The computer will eliminate ‘unnecessary’ information of the file to make the size smaller. This will, if continuously done eventually lose more quality of the image.

Compress graphical files

This is an easy to do technique to save a lot of space in the long run. Just move your file sizes to a zip file and you can save even more than half the space than if the photos were saved in a regular folder.

Loseless compression

loseless compression is used to compress the file size yet still keep the quality in the photo. To do this the colour value of certain pixels is changed. If you have a picture of a night sky rather than multiple versions of the colour black being used, only one type of black will be used throughout the whole picture. This technique can cut the file size significantly.
