Copyright

Copyright

Copyright laws are put in to place by law to allow creators of their product(s) to ensure they receive full entitlement, revive payments from their product(s) and are allowed to publish, display, distribute, or make new works from the product(s).

Things that are not able to be copyrighted are

- familiar symbols or designs

- listings of ingredients or contents

- Ideas, procedures, methods, systems, processes, concepts, principles, discoveries, or devices

 - Common information such as calendars, measurement charts, TV guides

-    titles, names, short phrases, and slogans

- Government or legal documents

In the digital graphics sense once you create an image, e.g by taking a picture with a camera or creating an image in Photoshop you are the owner of the product and you own the copyright to this product.

One of the only times this does not come in to effect is if you are creating an image for a third party or whilst under emloyment it is then owned by the third party or the employer.

How long does copyright last?

Copyright privileges differ from country to country but copyrights usually last 50-70 years.
